Take a drive, make a difference

You can get behind the community by getting behind the wheel of a car.

That’s right. If you take a test drive and selfie at one of 20 Salem-area car dealerships from July 25-31, the dealer will donate $10 to the Maps Community Foundation, a nonprofit that gives grants to teachers, scholarships to students, and financial education to all ages.

Drivers, who can also win prizes along the way, just need to submit their selfies to [email protected] or the Drive to Donate page.

“Drive to Donate is a win-win-win,” said Mitzi Smith, the credit union’s Community Development Officer. “It raises awareness about education in the community, connects members to local dealerships, and connects members back to the credit union.”

Drive to Donate is the foundation’s way of raising money for their work while supporting Salem-area businesses, said Smith.

Participating dealerships include:

  • Acura of Salem
  • BMW of Salem
  • Capitol Chevrolet
  • Capitol Subaru
  • Capitol Toyota
  • Coop’s Car Connection
  • Honda of Salem
  • Lulay’s Car Connection
  • Mercedes-Benz of Salem
  • Power Chevrolet
  • Power GMC Buick
  • Power Kia
  • Power Mazda
  • Power Nissan
  • Roberson Motors
  • Skyline Ford of Salem
  • Skyline's Keizer Ford
  • VW of Salem
  • Withnell Dodge
  • Withnell Hyundai

J.J. Hunsaker, general manager of Volkswagen of Salem, said his dealership, which averages about 400 test drives a month, is participating in the fundraiser to help the foundation and its work.

“Any time a local business looks for help in our community we like to support it,” he said. “We’re looking forward to a good turnout.”
