A legacy of learning

Maps Credit Union and its charitable affliate, the Maps Community Foundation, have given away more than $110,000 in college scholarships since 2005. Information about applying for Maps' 2017 scholarships will be posted here in January.

About the scholarships

  1. Maps Credit Union Scholarship: Two $1,000 scholarships for any senior graduating from any Marion or Polk High School and who intends to pursue a course of study at an accredited college or university. Funds will be distributed to two seniors as determined by the selection committee.
  2. Maps Business Partner Scholarship: $2,000 for any senior(s) from North, West, or McKay High Schools, who have been an active member of the Business and Management Classes for one or more years and intends to pursue a course of study at an accredited college or university. Funds will be distributed as determined by the selection committee and may be awarded in amounts as small as $500.
  3. Earl Littrell Scholarship: $3,500 for any student who intends to pursue a course of study in Accounting, Economics, Business or related studies at an accredited college or university in Oregon. Priority will be given to Maps employees, family members of Maps employees, and members of Maps Credit Union in that order. Student must be a resident of Marion or Polk Counties. Funds will be distributed as determined by the selection committee and may be awarded in amounts as small as $500.
  4. Dan Penn Scholarship: Two $1,000 scholarships for any senior graduating from any Marion or Polk County High School who intends to pursue a course of study in business, finance or related studies. Funds will be distributed as determined by the selection committee.

2016 Scholarship Winners

Maps Credit Union Scholarships for Marion or Polk high school seniors who intend to study at an accredited college or university were awarded to:

  • Braden Palanuk ($1,000) of Salem Academy, who plans to attend George Fox University
  • Julissa Montero ($1,000) of North Salem High, who plans to attend Western Oregon University

Maps Business Partner Scholarships for North Salem, West Salem, or McKay high school seniors who have been in business and management classes for at least a year and plan to study at an accredited college or university were awarded to:

  • Joshua Spann ($500) of West Salem High, who plans to attend Liberty University
  • Jason Yue ($1,000) of McKay High, who plans to attend Oregon State University
  • Kelsie Meithof ($500) of West Salem High, who plans to attend the University of Buffalo

Earl Littrell Scholarships for Marion or Polk County residents who plan on studying economics, accounting, business or a related subject at an accredited college or university in Oregon went to:

  • Faith Sully ($500) of Silverton High, who plans to attend Oregon State University
  • Cythia Soto ($500) of McKay High, who plans to attend Chemeketa Community College
  • Gabriel Linares ($500) of Woodburn High, who plans to attend the University of Oregon
  • Julio Jaquez ($1,000) of West Salem High, who plans to attend the University of Oregon 
  • Brenda Plata-Hurtado ($1,000) of North Salem High, who plans to attend Western Oregon University

Dan Penn Scholarships for Marion or Polk county high school seniors who plan to study business, finance or a related subject were awarded to:

  • Jennifer Miranda ($1,000) of West Salem High, who plans to attend the University of Portland 
  • Joshua Spann ($1,000) of West Salem High, who plans to attend Liberty University

The foundation also awarded two additional scholarships:

  • Ava Krueger of Silverton High won a $1,000 Maps Insurances Services Scholarship. She plans to study at Portland State University
  • Jesus Rodriguez-Uribe of Woodburn’s Wellness, Business and Sports School won a $500 scholarship from the foundation’s Paint and Pinot fundraiser to attend the University of Portland
