Community Events and Giving
We want you to be up to date on all of our community endeavors. That way, you’ll know where we are and what we’re up to and you can join us for the events that might benefit you — like our annual Free Community Shred Day.
Our most recent community involvement includes:
Union Gospel Mission
Walk for Hope
June 22nd, 2013
Maps supports the Union Gospel Mission’s (UGM) education department and individuals working to obtain their GED. To show our support, we are sponsoring the UGM Walk for Hope. If you are walking, look for Maps employees throughout the walk or at the watering booth at Broadway Commons.
In 2013, the Union Gospel Mission of Salem is celebrating 60 years of service in our community. As an organization, they are passionately committed to continuing in the work of restoring hope and restoring lives. The generosity of thousands of faithful financial supporters and hundreds of volunteers makes this possible. Without our community they would be unable to provide food, shelter and many other life-changing services to hungry, hurting and homeless men, women and children.
The hope is that Walk for Hope 2013 will not only raise awareness in our community about the enduring need of hungry, hurting and homeless men, women and children, but also, as a community, to raise sufficient funds in order to meet the needs of the most vulnerable among us.
61st Annual Silverton Hills Strawberry Festival
Since 1951, Silverton area folks have been enjoying this local tradition. Originally held at the Silverton Hills Grange Hall, they now celebrate in the local Coolidge McClaine City Park. The event is held on Father’s Day — Sunday, June 17 — from 11:00am until 5:00pm. For $5, enjoy a strawberry delight with biscuits, ice cream, and a second helping of strawberries. Strawberry shortcake is free for children under 2 and over 80.
The musical line up is as follows:
Dusty Strings 12:00-2:30
Oregon Valley Boys 3:00-6:00
The main entertainment stage is located near the covered area in the park. All of the music is family friendly and free to everyone! Bring a blanket and grab a seat on the grass or enjoy one of the many picnic tables available. Stop by the food court to grab some of the Wooden Nickel's award-winning BBQ and check out the arts and crafts vendors.

Causa Oregon hosts Zocalo Night
Causa Oregon is hosting their 3rd annual gala and awards event on Friday June 22, 2012 at the Willamette Heritage Center at The Mill in Salem. The Zocalo (Spanish pronunciation: sokalo) is the main plaza in the heart of the historic center of many cities across Latin America. It is a place for celebrations, ceremonies, food, dances, live music, and civic engagement. They will be creating their own Zocalo at The Mill and put at the center of our community the stories of individuals who make sure that the American dream is not only a dream but also a reality. They will honor women and men who’ve played key roles in supporting Oregon’s Latino community to reach the American Dream.
Causa’s Zocalo Night will feature Latin American musicians, folkloric dancers, and food stands from local restaurants.
Maps is a Bronze Sponsor for the Zocalo Night Oaxacan black pottery awards for honorees.
